We are situated at the end of Lynton High Street, so all the amenities are close by. The village has a church, bank, post office, Tourist Information Centre, gift shops, galleries, restaurants, tea-rooms, several pubs and a couple of convenience stores.

  • Valley of Rocks (2 mi)
  • A must see when visiting is the Valley of Rocks with it’s wild goats, Exmoor Ponies and splendid views. The Valley is approximately two miles drive or walk from the guest house. There is plenty of parking and a tea-room for refreshment. There is also a cricket ground at the base of the valley which is a superb place to watch a game in the summer months.
  • Cliff Railway (0 mi)
  • The famous Cliff Railway opened in 1890. It is an unique Victorian water-powered lift, only a couple of minutes walk from the guest house. It joins Lynton with Lynmouth below, where Exmoor meets the sea. It is open from mid – February until early November.
  • Lynton & Barnstaple Railway at Woody Bay station (5 mi)
  • Take a leisurely 2 mile return ride on this restored narrow gauge steam train. You will enjoy unspoilt views across Exmoor towards Heddon’s Mouth, the Bristol Channel and South Wales.
  • Watersmeet (3 mi)
  • Watersmeet is about an hours walk from Lynmouth along the East Lyn River. The National Trust have opened a tea-room in Watersmeet House which used to be a Victorian hunting and fishing lodge. It overlooks the point where the East Lyn River and the Hoar Oak Water meet. It is located in one of England’s deepest river gorges. There is parking if you don’t want to walk from Lynmouth but it’s a steep 5 minute walk down to the river.
  • Exmoor Zoo (10 mi)
  • Enjoy a day out at Exmoor Zoo where you can meet over 600 different animals, 175 different species. The zoo offers a very hands-on approach, with a different talk, demonstration or show happening every 30 minutes.

Lynton has it’s own cinema in a converted Methodist chapel. It can seat 68 people. It is a short walk away and offers a new screening every week.

  • South West Coastal Path (0 mi) www.swcp.org.uk
  • The guest house is situated only 50 metres from the South west Coastal Path. It is Britain’s longest National Trail with over 600 miles of way-marked paths. It starts in Minehead and finishes in Poole. The scenery along the way is dramatic and beautiful. Join it at Lynton or Lynmouth to enjoy the spectacular coastline towards Porlock or Heddon Valley and Combe Martin. The trail can be accessed by bus and train so that shorter distances can be walked.
  • Fishing, cycling and horse riding (0 mi)
  • Exmoor provides a great base to enjoy many outdoor activities. There are endless walks, bridleways and mountain biking trails on the door step of Lynton. For a challenging cycle ride follow the Exmoor Cycle Route which is a 56 mile ‘Tour of Britain’ circuit. The Culbourne Way Regional Route 51 is a popular trail from Minehead over Exmoor to Illfracombe. Exmoor offers some of the best riding stables for the novice or experienced rider with spectacular views and miles of bridleways to explore.
